comment by u/nomoremisterknivesguy99, top poster on r/bladedhandles 96 weeks running: do not make the mistake of buying any knife that is budget or mid-range, because as anybody with any expertise in this hobby will tell you IF THEYRE HONEST, inevitably you will become so obsessed that your compulsive spending on knives will lead to a very acrimonious divorce. since you'll definitely eventually end up spending in the top shelf range anyway, best to skip all the low & mid range options so you aren't embarrassed by having all these "starter" knives when the lawyers are dividing your possessions. about 5 figures is reasonable if you want something decent.
